What to Expect During TMJ & Bruxism Treatment

Your TMJ & bruxism session is designed to feel calm, intentional, and deeply supportive:
  • Your provider will begin with a focused assessment of the masseter and temporalis muscles, observing movement patterns and areas of tension.
  • Your medical history and current medications are reviewed to ensure the safest, most effective treatment.
  • The injection sites are cleansed with medical‑grade antiseptic and gently marked for precise placement.
  • The treatment itself is quick and comfortable, with no downtime.

Pre / Post Treatment

Enjoy a light snack or small meal before your appointment to help you feel relaxed and at ease.

Hold medications and supplements for 24 – 72 hours, when medically appropriate. This includes aspirin, vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Celebrex and meloxicam, as these medications my increase the risk for bleeding and bruising.

Avoid applying makeup or lotion to the treatment areas on the day of your appointment.

To ensure a smooth recovery and allow your treatment to settle beautifully, please follow the guidelines below: 

  • Remain upright for 4 hours after treatment to prevent neurotoxin from spreading to unintended muscles.  
  • Avoid touching or rubbing the injection sites for 24 hours. 
  • Avoid strenuous activities or workouts for 24 hours to minimize swelling and reduce the risk of migration.  
  • Avoid saunas or hot tubs for 24to 48 hours, as heat may increase circulation and interfere with treatment settling. 
  • Do not sleep face down the first night after treatment to protect the injection sites. 
  • Avoid makeup for 24 hours to reduce the risk of irritation or infection in the treated areas.  
  • Most clients notice improvement within 3 to 7 days, with full results of around 14 days.
