Trigger Point Therapy

Targeted relief • Restored comfort • Gentle precision

Trigger point injections offer a minimally invasive approach to releasing tension within the body. Using a gentle placement of local anesthetic (lidocaine), into overactive muscle bands, often referred to as “knots” are relaxed to ease inflammation and discomfort. This treatment can provide relief from migraines, tension headaches, and neck pain. The experience is quick, precise, and allows for multiple areas to be treated seamlessly in a single session. For an enhanced result, neurotoxin may be incorporated for an additional cost. This elevated option delivers deeper muscle relaxation, softens contraction signals, and when used in the shoulders, it can create a beautifully elongated, slender appearance. For clients sensitive or allergic to lidocaine, trigger point therapy can be tailored using a dry‑needling technique, which requires no anesthetic. This approach uses delicate needle placement to release muscle tension while maintaining comfort and efficacy.

What to Expect During Trigger Point Therapy

Your trigger point therapy session is designed to feel precise, restorative, and comfortably guided from start to finish.
  • Your provider will apply firm pressure to the areas locating trigger points.
  • Skin will be thoroughly cleansed with medical grade skin antiseptic.
  • The treatment areas will then be marked and injected with a local anesthetic while breaking up the trigger points.
  • Dry needling (no medication or fluid) is performed for those allergic to lidocaine or neurotoxin.
  • The procedure is relatively quick, and multiple areas can be treated during the appointment.
  • There is no downtime after the treatment.
  • Trigger point therapy often provides relief within 24 to 72 hours and can last 3-4 months, though individual response varies

Pre / Post Treatment

To ensure a smooth, comfortable experience and minimize the risk of bruising or irritation, please review the following guidelines before your appointment:

  • Hold medications and supplements for 24 to72 hours, when medically appropriate. This includes Aspirin, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Celebrex, and Meloxicam, as these may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising or bleeding.
  • Inform your provider if you have an allergy to lidocaine or any other products used during the procedure.
  • Wear loose fitting clothing to allow easy access to treatment areas and enhance overall comfort.

To support optimal healing and ensure the most refined, comfortable recovery, please follow the guidance below:

  • Increase your water intake throughout the day to support circulation and assist the body in naturally clearing metabolic byproducts released during treatment.
  • Refrain from heavy lifting or intense exercise for 24 to 48 hours to allow the treated muscles to relax and settle without additional strain.
  • Soft, controlled stretching helps maintain mobility and prevents the treated areas from tightening as the muscles continue to decompress.
  • A cool compress or ice pack may be applied to the treatment area to minimize soreness or swelling and promote a calm, balanced recovery.
  •  If mild discomfort arises, over‑the‑counter options such as Tylenol or ibuprofen may be used as directed to ease any post‑treatment tenderness.
  •  Avoid saunas, hot tubs, and other heat intensive environments for the first 24 hours, allowing the tissues to recover without increased circulation or irritation.
